This was my final submission for Clint Jones (Pwnisher) "Moving Meditations" challenge, which ended up making it into the top 100!
We recieved an animated skeleton and camera, but were otherwise given free reins.
My priority was to just get something completed for the challenge, so I didn't spend an overwhelming amount of time on the initial concept (to my detrement) but the idea was to depict a newbie superhero in training in their garage.
Everything in the shot was modeled in Blender, textured in substance painter, simulated in Houdini and rendered in cycles.
Final piece
Moving pieces were about a 50/50 split between hand-keyed animation and simulation. All simulations were made with Houdini Vellum, apart from the dust particles which just used standard POPs.
The final image was composited using separate renders for the mirror and particle effects, mostly to easily be able to integrate and customize the mirror reflection without rerendering the entire piece.
